About the Event
Join Gustavus-connected experts Dan Lesh and Bobbi Hudson to discuss the growth of mariculture in Alaska, what it looks like today, and visions for the future. Kelp and oyster farming is poised for significant growth and has attracted high-profile investments, including a $49M grant administered by Southeast Conference in partnership with a broad coalition called the Alaska Mariculture Cluster. Dan Lesh is the deputy director of Southeast Conference and will share information about the many opportunities (contracts, matching grants, loan funds, trainings, etc.) available to Alaskans interested in kelp and oyster production, processing, and related services. Bobbi Hudson directs the Pacific Shellfish Institute, a non-profit research organization providing shellfish-related services. Bobbi is a long-time collaborator on Alaska mariculture projects and retains a diverse portfolio of ecological, oceanographic and social science research.
